W.C. Evans

July 30, 1939 – February 13, 2011

Funeral services for W.C. Evans, 71, of Little River will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday at First Baptist Church of Little River with Rev. Joe Broadway, Rev. Brian West, and Rev. Gene Joplin officiating. Burial will be in Little River-Wilson Valley Cemetery.

Mr. Evans died Sunday at his residence.

Mr. Evans was born July 30, 1939, in Temple to W.J. Evans and Bernice Silvers Evans. He graduated from Academy High School and received a BS degree from Southwest Texas State University. He served for eight years in the 36th Infantry Division & 49th Armored Division of the Texas National Guard. He married Bernice Jones August 18, 1962 in Hallettsville. He lived at Little River all of his life and operated the Evans Ranch. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Little River, where he served as a Deacon, member of Board of Directors for Bell Co. Farm Bureau, Texas Corn Producers, 2 term Bell County Youth Fair board member, Bell Co. Youth Fair Walk of Fame inductee, Friend of Bell Co. 4-H award recipient, Bell Co Youth Fair Commercial Steer Superintendent for 29 years, Bell Co. Youth Fair PRCA Rodeo co-founder when the Fair moved to the Expo Center, Bell Co. Cowboy Ring of Honor inductee, American Truck Historical Society member, Southwest Texas State University rodeo team former member, National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association former member and Temple Longhorn Riding Club former member and was president of Little River-Wilson Valley Cemetery Association.

Mr. Evans was preceded in death by his parents W.J. and Bernice Silvers Evans and by a brother C.J. Evans.

Survivors include his wife Bernice Evans of Little River; two sons Ed Evans and his wife Christy and their daughter Abigail and son Nikolas of Lafayette, Indiana and John Evans and his wife Erica and their daughter Darby of Little River.

Pallbearers will be Michael Moon, Chris Southerland, Ira Southerland, Jerome Engkle, John Baker, and Billy Easley. Honorary pallbearers will be Oscar Grossman, John Hagler, Jon Miller, Billy Hicks, John Barnes, Ron Lucksinger, Tommy Bennett, Jack Bennett, Walter Tomlin, Ed Coufal, Gary Hudgens, Logan Adams, Billy Cosper and Fidel Osorio.

Visitation will be from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday at First Baptist Church in Little River.
